Chapter 1 - Mason, OH - Camp Cedar

We did it. We did our first leg of this very first trip went just fine, without any issues. The drive started out snowy and slushy at home, but once we were on regular roads it was smooth sailing.

We employed the Leaving Checklist and it was perfect. There are a ton of little things you have to remember to do before leaving a location, and most of them are small enough that if you forget it 'probably' isn't going to be an issue... until it is.

For our first adventure started with very few pictures. Mainly because we've been on these roads before. But we'll ramp up the photo game today. The plan is to take a selfie in each camping location and print it on our Fujifilm Instax Mini. Cutest little printer out there, in my opinion. And a better way to print photos than using the camera. My phone's camera's are pretty good. Pair that with a photo editing software, I use Picsart, and you can print pretty nice keepsakes for the travel journal.

Starbucks Pink Drink makes the trip soooo much better.

We didn't catch the road version of the sign, but this will work.

The adventure has taught us a few things. One, the mattress you sleep on is worth its weight in gold. Poor Clay is hobbling around like an old man with a back brace on from sleeping in the upper bunk ONE night. When we hit Mason we stopped at Walmart and bought a 3in foam topper. If that doesn't work we'll be buying a full-fledged foam mattress and ditching the other two that are up there. Mine, by the way, is lovely.

Two, we learned that nights are boring. But we have games and I've challenged him to a rummy match this evening. We need a routine at night, and music. The camper is really quiet without anything running. Really, really quiet. There's a decent sound system in here we just need to figure out how to use it.

Three, I need to be patient with the water heater before assuming it doesn't work. :D But good news is the propane water heater works FAST and the electric can then maintain the scolding lava that floweth.

Oh, and Clay visited the camp showers just to compare to Hamlin State Park. This was very, very nice. Not a spider, muddy footprint or unknown stain to be found.

For the first day I'm very happy. Hoping for a fun couple of days here at Camp Cedar before we move onto Kentucky.

Thanks for reading!
