I spent the night at Hi-Way Cafe in some of the windiest winds I've tried to sleep through in the camper. There was a weather event going on throughout the country and we were getting WINDS. Need less to say, we didn't sleep much.
Woke to a sunny morning, winds continued to pound us for the duration of the morning. The shining moment in the day? The breakfast. I had the best pancakes I've ever had. Period. Even better than Disney World's, and that's saying something. I don't know if they add vanilla extract or other things as well, but they were so good. And the coffee? Chef's kiss.
Also, solar panels for the win. I'm not sure the truck is charging the batteries while I drive (will be testing soon) leading to us waking to seriously drained batteries. I started the generator, but as you all should know, I don't want to put a ton of hours on the generator. It's expensive to replace. I dragged out the solar panels and I love them so much. They charge the batteries at the same rate, or better, than the generator. Full day of sun means fully charged and ready to go house batteries.
Once my work day was done the wind had settled down enough to drive. Off to Chandler OK to the 66 Bowl Center. The drive was neat. Drove through Tulsa and a few little towns. Route 66 is alive and well here, so it was like driving any normal rural road at home. Not a ton of memorabilia outside of the towns, but still a super pleasant drive.
Forgive the sun glare. I was driving into the sun the whole trip and haven't edited pics yet.
Pulled in around 6pm, got set up, heated up my dinner and hit the hay early. Tomorrow I'll get lunch at the bowling alley and might even play a few arcade games. We'll see.
Both locations, Hi-Way Cafe and Rt 66 Bowl, are HarvestHost locations. Dry camping at both meaning no electric or water hook ups, but it's a safe place to stay, meet new people and stop places I normally wouldn't while traveling.
